Stop tap information

It's very important that you know where your internal stop tap is located, as you will need to switch off the water if you have a leak or if you're having any plumbing work done.

While we can't tell you exactly where the internal stop tap for your home is, there are a number of places where they are commonly put. These are: under a sink (often the kitchen sink), in the garage,  or a downstairs bathroom or toilet. If you have a storage tank at your home, then an additional isolation valve will be close to it, such as in the airing cupboard or loft.

If you live in a flat, you may share your water supply with neighbours. A communal stop tap will generally be where the water supply enters the building; you should check that you can get to it, although, an additional stop tap should be found where the water supply enters your flat.
