Sue Snowdon, Lord Lieutenant of County Durham joined dignitaries including MP Helen Goodman at the Foundations building in Church Street to celebrate the success of the partnership project since its launch in 2013.

Foundations is a programme run by homes and communities business, livin,  and delivers a range of projects and training programmes for local people to support employment, health, financial wellbeing,  digital skills, and youth activities.  livin’s partners which support the programme include The Foundation of Light,   Durham County Council, Pioneering Care Partnership, the Health Express, South Durham Counselling Service, Cornforth Partnership and Bishop Auckland College.

Alan Boddy, Executive Director People at Communities at livin, said: “The impact of Foundations over the last two years has been significant. This event is about recognising the good work the partnership has already delivered but more importantly learning from our first two years to ensure we continue to develop the Foundations offer and provide much needed support for local people in the coming years.”

Since launching two years ago Foundations has helped over 2,200 local people into employment, training or further education and has worked with over 300 local families to help strengthen communities.  The next big thing is our Digital Me programme, a free service which is aiming to deliver vital digital support and training to  2000 local people over the coming two years.”

Lord Lieutenant Sue Snowdon said: “Today has been a celebration of what has been achieved in such a short a time and the outcomes prove it is working. Foundations is having a positive beneficial impact locally and I am delighted to have been invited to celebrate this successful programme”.

Sarah Howell, operations manager for the Foundation of Light said: "We’re delighted to welcome such a special guest to our anniversary celebrations. The partnership has been a tremendous success, we've developed strong links with local schools, employers and community groups and together we are delivering programmes that are making a significant impact of the lives of local people.”
