Debt Support

Debt can affect anyone. Whether it's credit cards, loans, rent arrears, or utility bills, financial pressure can feel overwhelming. But free, confidential help is available, and you don’t have to face it alone.

Understanding your situation

Before you take action, it's important to:

  • List all your debts – include amounts, due dates, and who you owe.
  • Prioritise – rent, mortgage, council tax, and energy bills are considered priority debts.
  • Review your income and spending – this helps identify what you can afford to repay

You can use MoneyHelper budget calculator to do this.

We have partnered with Community Money Advice to provide you with a free, priority debt advice service. You can contact them directly on 0191 303 7514 or email: office@moneyadvicedurham.org.uk

We work in partnership with Citizens Advice Durham who provide free, confidential and impartial advice. Their goal is to help everyone find a way forward, whatever problem they face.

You may have money, benefit, housing or employment problems. You may be facing a crisis, or just considering your options. If you would like to know more about our partnership, request Money Support.
