In the past year, we have carried out over 1,030 adaptations supporting tenants to live independently in the homes and communities they love.
We visited Kevin and his Daughter Jaqueline at his home in Newton Aycliffe to see how the adaptations have transformed his way of life.
Victoria Walker, our occupational therapist, has worked with Kevin to arrange adaptations to help him move around his home more freely in his wheelchair. These include the widening of the ramp to his front door and internal door frames, and the installation of a level-access shower.
Kevin said: " Adaptations to my home means my wife and I don’t have to move away from the area or the family that I’ve got close by, like my daughter, who is my full-time carer. It's the little things that make a difference to us, like making the ramp wider for my scooter. I'm very grateful for all the support I've received."
Chris Walton, Housing Operations Manager, said: " Having an occupational therapist, like Victoria, to support and deliver our aids and adaptations service is extremely beneficial for our tenants. Kevin is one of many of our tenants who can sustain their current tenancy which he has lived in for 21 years."
If you, or a family member, are struggling due to a long-term illness, disability, or mobility issues we may be able to help. For more information on this service, you can read our summarised customer policy on aids and adaptations.
