Jubilee Fields Community Centre is an essential part of the Shildon community offering a variety of events for all ages, including school holiday activities, playgroups, local men's groups and Age UK lunches.
Over the past six months, the centre has received funding and support worth over £70,000 to carry out much-needed improvements to the shared facility. We worked with PPG Industries, Northern Powergrid, Mears PLC, Nationwide Engineering, Durham Community Action, Groundwork North-East and Cumbria, Age UK, and the Scotto Trust to help see the project come to fruition.
As part of the improvements, the centre received new energy-efficient LED lighting, solar panels to help reduce energy bills, a community artist mural inspired by the nearby Locomotion Museum to brighten up the hallways, refreshed seating areas, and new doors to separate larger meeting rooms to host more events.
Malcolm Gray, community investment manager said: “Being able to support our valued community partners allows us to help our wider communities allowing them the opportunity to utilise the community facilities they have on the doorstep”.
Lesley Bowes, community support worker for the centre said, "A big thanks must go out to all our partners as without their tremendous support we could not have transformed the centre into what it is now – a warm and friendly place to come and socialise which is doing its bit for the environment whilst saving us money".
