Year 10 students gain first-hand insight into sustainable housing at Newton Aycliffe redevelopment

Year 10 students placed within our Finance, Transformation, and Livin Futures teams recently visited Bury Road, Newton Aycliffe to explore the final stages of an exciting redevelopment project. The former guest house is being transformed into two contemporary five-bedroom family homes, featuring energy-efficient upgrades and modern interiors, delivered in collaboration with Oaktree Living.

During the visit, students were given a guided tour of the site by our Building Surveyor, Reece Marshall. They gained valuable insights into the construction process, the principles of sustainable design, and the diverse range of roles involved in delivering high-quality, energy-efficient homes."

Anya Brodie said: "I really enjoyed visiting the site. It was so good to see how the houses are being built and how much work goes into it. I didn’t realise how many different jobs are involved. It’s made me think more about what I might want to do in the future

Helen Johnson, Livin Futures Manager, said: "It’s always inspiring to see young people engaging with real-world projects like this. These placements are about more than just observation, they’re about sparking ambition and showing students the many pathways available in housing and regeneration. We’re proud to offer support to work experience students".
