A hearty helping of after‑school support for local families

A new 'After‑School Grub' programme from Spennymoor Town Football Club's Moors in the Community is already serving up success, with more than 30 young people tucking into healthy meals and taking part in fun activities in its first two weeks.

We have supported the project with £5,000 of funding, helping the team put on a mix of activities and provide a warm, nutritious meal each day. This affordable after‑school support is especially helpful for working families who need reliable options that fit around busy routines. The sessions are led by Community Kitchen Projects Officer Rosie Holness, with support from Managing Director Ian Geldard.

Running every Tuesday to Thursday from The Brewery Field, Spennymoor, 3 pm–4 pm, the project offers a hot meal for just £2 per child, with every penny going straight back into keeping the programme running for local families.

Luca and Sonny Briggs, After-School Grub attendees, said: “We liked having our tea at the football club because we could see the big pitch from the room, it was really cool!”

Malcolm Gray, Community Investment Manager, said: “We’re grateful to be able to support Moors in the Community with this project because it gives local children the chance to enjoy good food, take part in activities and take a bit of pressure off families during the week.”

Ian Geldard, Managing Director, said “We are delighted to work alongside Livin as the cost-of-living is high on everyone’s agenda in the current climate. The After-School Grub project allows us to open our doors through the week to support children and families.”
