Sedgefield in Bloom volunteers lead the way in Rectory Row makeover
We are proud to have supported volunteer group Sedgefield in Bloom, in transforming an open space on Rectory Row, into a vibrant and accessible area for the whole community to enjoy.
The land, jointly owned by us and Durham County Council, has been given a new lease of life thanks to funding from both organisations and support from local County Councillors. The improvements include a new bench and a freshly laid path, making the space easier to access for residents with mobility challenges.
Known for their bright pink hi-vis vests and dedication to keeping Sedgefield naturally colourful, they have planted a wildflower meadow and created beautiful borders that they continue to maintain regularly.
Helen Marple, Sedgefield Bloomers Volunteer, said; "The Sedgefield Bloomers rely on volunteers who work tirelessly to make sure our town is beautiful all year round. We raise funds throughout the year and also work with our local councillors and partners such as Livin."
Andy Coulthard, our Community Regeneration Manager, said: “It’s a pleasure to support such groups, Julie and Helen are a great example of local people looking after their village. Supporting initiatives like this is at the heart of what we do, it’s about working with local people to create places that feel welcoming and inclusive".
