Durham County Council has changed the Council Tax Reduction Scheme. From 1 April 2026, all working‑age residents will need to contribute towards their Council Tax.
We want to make sure you have the right advice and support. If you’re unsure how these changes might affect you, or what to do next, please contact Durham County Council on 03000 262 0000.
Shildon volunteer community group raise thousands for charity
The Busy Bees community group has raised over £7,000 for a range of charities in the past year, including the Great North East Air Ambulance, Great Aycliffe Cancer Support, Shildon Alive, and many others—making a lasting impact across the community.
Based at the Foundations Building, 51–55 Church Street, Shildon, the Busy Bees host regular morning fundraising events that bring the community together over coffee and a shared commitment to giving something back.
Their fundraising calendar is as busy as their name suggests. Every six weeks, the Busy Bees organise tabletop sales, bake sales, raffles, and seasonal celebrations, each event offering a chance to connect with residents and support those in need.
Nora Brewster, Finance and Treasurer of the Busy Bees, said: “ We are focused on supporting those in need in our local area and we are so grateful to Livin to allow us the opportunity to open for the day and raise the funds”
