Western Area Regeneration

What Happens Next?

Silverdale Place, Langdale Place, Eskdale Place, Whinlatter Place, Kirkstone Place and Honister Place are the six streets which make up the Western Area estate in Newton Aycliffe.

Livin is working closely with residents, community groups and partners to improve the estate and tackle the issues which have been identified in consultation with residents and owners.

The Outcome

Through new activities and projects we are working in partnership to strengthen community spirit, ensure residents receive good Livin services as part of a cleaner and safer estate and supporting people into new learning, training and work opportunities.

Current activity includes:

  • Working with the groups and volunteers who use Silverdale House to improve the appearance of the building so that it can support more activities and events to be a popular hub for the community.  Our Livin apprentices will be involved in the improvement works and once complete, Livin Futures will deliver new employability and life skills courses from the building as part of a bigger programme of community-led activities.
  • Working with the Police and partners to carry out a Time Limited Project (TLP) on the estate.  A recent estate survey provided the partners with feedback from over 170 residents.  The TLP will be working into 2019 to instigate projects and services to address some of the issues raised. An example of this is the recently successfully installation of fencing to an area on Western to deal with youth annoyance.
  • Working with the community to do regular litter picks taking place out of Silverdale House with Livin staff, Police, partners and volunteers
  • Our Housing team we are working on a programme to visit all Livin tenants this year, offering support with financial wellbeing, social wellbeing and general housing advice.
