Western Estate - Local Offers

We listened, we acted

In 2021 we engaged with our tenants living on the Western Estate to find out what is important to them. This engagement has allowed us to form Local Offers (the actions we’ve agreed with the community and our partners) for the estate which we will be working on with residents and partners into 2025. Collectively we have managed to deliver the following so far.

Our anti-social behaviour (ASB) offer

We acknowledge that we play a significant role in contributing to safer neighbourhoods by working in partnership. We work closely with you, the police and Durham County Council, to take swift action to resolve issues of anti-social behaviour.

We will take prompt, appropriate and decisive action in preventing anti-social behaviour and when managing incidents of anti-social behaviour.

During April 2021 and March 2024 through collaborative working, we have reduced reported ASB on the estate by 46% (police data). We will continue to work collectively to reduce environmental ASB and off-road bikes as you have highlighted these as your key concerns. We are also working with the Police Commissioner's office through the ASB Trailblazer programme to introduce more patrols and community safety interventions to continue to try and tackle ASB and crime on the estate.

Our repairs offer

We listened when you highlighted concerns about repairs to your homes being carried out quickly, efficiently and satisfactorily.

We will respond to emergency repairs in four hours, urgent in five days, routine in 10 days and planned repairs in 25 days.

Between April 2021 and March 2024 we have increased tenant satisfaction with our repairs. Our aim going forward into 2025, we will continue to improve our service and will feed this back to our tenants through our estate newsletter and Facebook page.

Our environmental and green spaces offer

We recognise the importance of maintaining shared spaces to keep places safe, clean, and accessible whilst creating a strong sense of community pride. We listened when you told us that we should make better use of the open space we have on and around the estate, highlighting issues such as litter, dog fouling, general appearance and provision for young and older residents.

We have consulted with residents, to discuss improvements to the open spaces and environmental quality of the estate.

During 2023 and 2024, we have been working hard on improving untidy gardens on the estate, with 31 cases relating to untidy gardens and 42 incidents of fly tipping being tackled, We have carried out 32 estate inspections with partners and residents (monthly). The Western Community Partnership has instigated a monthly litter pick with between 15 and 20 bags of rubbish collected each session. We have also worked with Durham County Council and planted an additional 29 trees around the estate. We will continue the monthly estate inspections and litter picking sessions in 2025 and continue to monitor open space across the estate.

Our income and employability offer

We know that the ‘cost of living’ is affecting everyone, but some more than most. We can support you to improve your skills and provide routes into work to help ease the financial burden.

Our Livin Futures team can help you access training, volunteering opportunities and job vacancies.

Between April 2021 and March 2024 our Livin Futures employability team supported 47 tenants into employment. This offer will continue into 2025, please use the link below if you require any support in this area.

We acted and will continue to act...
